History of Cinematography

A movie, also known as film, motion picture, TV movie, motion picture is a separate work of cinematic art. Technologically, an online movie is a set of moving images (montage frames) connected by a single storyline. Each montage consists of a sequence of photographic or digital still images (frames) on which individual phases of motion are recorded. The movie, as a rule, has a soundtrack.

The field of human activity associated with the creation and reproduction of movies is called cinematography. Cinematography includes the field of application of movies as an art form (filmmaking), (film technology), as well as the movie industry. Movies are created by recording moving images of the world around us with motion picture machines or digital cameras, and are also produced from single images using animation or special effects.

Watching movies is part of modern culture. Popular movie characters and the actors who play them often become famous and their images recognizable. Cinemas are built specifically for the mass viewing of movies. Usually the length of a movie is 90-120 minutes (1.5-2 hours). In the home, the traditional way to watch movies is to use a TV set with a video player connected to it, but more recently, movies are watched online and a personal computer, smartphone and other electronic video playback devices are used for this purpose.

Large-format film is a type of film system based on the use of film with a width exceeding the standard 35mm[8] (often 50 to 70 mm). Large-format film systems are characterized by a large frame area, which does not require strong magnification and allows for high quality images on large screens. Wide formats were developed as a replacement for expensive panoramic cinematography, and with a comparable frame area they give a whole image without joints. The most widescreen systems used to make 70mm wide film with a frame that takes up five perforations and a 2.2:1 wide-screen aspect ratio (5/70 format) were the most common. The modern look of widescreen cinematography is regulated by ISO 2467:2004 in accordance with SMPTE recommendations and regulations. Nowadays, large-format cinema uses 65-mm wide film and spherical (axially symmetric) optics for filming, and 70-mm wide film for making film prints.

Contrary to common misconception, the introduction of wide-format film into the market was originally not due to attempts to increase resolution, but mainly as a way of placing an optical phonogram on the same medium as the image. Large-format film systems began to develop with the advent of sound cinematography. Sound quality then depended on the width of the track, and on standard 35mm film the frame, if the width of the phonogram was too big, became square. The problem was solved by wide film on which backgrounds of any width could be printed, as well as large-area widescreen images. Attempts to create widescreen movies online were made from the earliest days of cinema, but practical use of wide format film did not get until the mid-50s, after the experience of shooting and showing 35mm wide-screen films using anamorphic optics has shown that the gain in image size is achieved at the cost of a certain decline in quality. The creation of widescreen cinema marked a new phase in the development of cinema, characterized by a significant increase in the size of the screen image without compromising its quality, achieved through the use of twice the width of film (compared with conventional film) and a system of 6-channel stereo recording and playback. In some large-format cinema systems, along with wide film, anamorphic imaging is also used at the same time.
